Skiing
The Bark Eater was one of the first cross country ski centers in the United States. We offer cross-country skiing on 20 kilometers of our own trails through private meadows and woodlands. The Bark Eater’s owner, Joe-Pete Wilson, co-wrote the classic book “Complete Cross-Country Skiing and Ski Touring” (with William J. Lederer).
Rock & Ice Climbing
Minutes away from the Bark Eater is perfect terrain for learning, and training, on a wide variety of rock and ice, ranging from convenient locations roadside – or down the road (including the Bark Eater walls) to remote backcountry trips. There are numerous guides and climbing schools, and many local guides have gone on to conquer famous peaks such as Everest, coming back to teach and lecture.
Fishing
The Bark Eater’s own pond, locally famous as the site of an annual children’s fishing derby, is a great place to practice your casting before heading out.
