Horseback Riding

 

With a herd of approximately 25 sure-footed, well mannered, and responsive horses for both English and Western-style riding, guests have the option to spend a day or two in the saddle. We offer guided horseback rides on our own wooded trails. Experienced riders will enjoy the well trained, responsive horses. Beginners will be able to relax and gain confidence. Riding and polo lessons are available.

Guides always accompany riders and provide basic, easy to understand instruction at no additional charge. Guests generally ride from one to four hours a day.

Many guests with advanced skills come to practice in our outdoor arena or enjoy time out on our more advanced trails.  The annual I Love New York and Lake Placid Horse Shows in late June and early July attract top show jumpers and national team members. Racing events at world-famous Saratoga are about an hour away.

Enjoy miles of the backcountry roads, meadows, mountainsides, and wooded logging trails found on and around the Bark Eater property. Trips of six to twenty miles begin at the stable; overnights can be arranged. Many of our trails are used for cross country skiing in the winter.
